One of the more polarizing whiskies released in the last 20 years, this is a fascinating experiment in conceptual barrel finishing. The release is a blend of three different rye whiskies, one each from MGP, Barton and High West itself. The ryes were aged in barrels that formerly held California vermouth and Syrah. The amount of fruit that this imparts to the rye is truly noteworthy. The color is that of blushing strawberry blond or faded rose, with a nose full of caramel and toffee, along with sweet dried fruits. Along with loads of red fruit, there is also a very pleasant lingering hint of chocolate or cocoa on the finish. Sadly, High West announced in July of 2020 that this whiskey would be discontinued in an effort to revamp their portfolio. We have very little left, so it made perfect sense to share it in the Advent Box. Cheers.
